Hi,

I'm building a positive pressure paint booth. I purchased six 16x25 filters for the incoming air. I have the air box all sealed up and when I run the fan, I notice that I get a lot of air coming from the edges of the filter. Where the pleats go into the cardboard U-channel on the edges, air is going around the pleats because they are not completely glued along the edges.

Anybody else have this problem?

This is the filter: https://www.homedepot.com/p/True-Blue-1 ... /100352751

Is there a better filter that is completely sealed along the edges?

Thanks,
Sal

The ones I use in my Paint booth are similar to These.

You don't wanna use Air conditioning filters, You can but that's not what they are designed for. You would have to build a Box type frame to hold the filters and then seal them some how.
I used House hold Silicone to make a seal that was reusable around the edges on my filter frame when I first started and tried to build a Paint booth. Actually it was the third rebuild of the dang thing lol.

The thing with trying to build your own Paint booth is getting the airflow right!
Its hard to get it right so your just gently moving over spray and not building a wind tunnel.
There are a few members here that have done it successfully but there was a lot of trial and error not to mention expense.

My first attempt was so bad I had to spray the car and THEN turn the Fan on to blow away the over spray other wise the wind was so bad it would actually Bend the paint guns spray pattern 6 inches to the left or right.
It resulted in a Lot of over spay on everything including the fresh paint.

I look back at my attempts of building a paint booth and it makes me appreciate my Booth a whole lot more every time Turn on the lights and hit he fan switch.

For all the hassle of trial and error and the expense of trying to build a Paint booth you can buy a decent used one cheap that includes the fan and lights.

This is Nicer than mine as its a true Down draft. You'd have to do some digging and cement work but this is a great booth for the money.

Here's A semi down draft similar to mine for $4500 Includes an attached mixing room and if you can get him to throw in that Devilbiss Air filter system, I bet he would. Then that would be a super Killer deal that's a $1000 bucks right there! Not to mention it includes A fire sprinkler system that's a Major bonus as well.
