Need advice (help)

Been out of bodywork/painting for a few years. Need to do rear quarter repair to both sides of my truck. Was thinking of buying either an Iwata LPH300-144LV or LPH400-144LV gravity feed gun for base coat/clear coat. Compressor is 8.4 CFM @ 40 PSI. Was wanting to know if either of these would work with a compressor with these specs. Thanks in advance.

Uggghhhh....compressors again. I think we need a sticky that reads something like...."Do I have enough compressor?"or "What do I need to make my gun spray?
And, obviously Chris is right....NO

I agree Darrell but the problem is you will always have somebody claiming they "got by" using a cheap gun and undersized compressor. Of course we can't see that actual finished product . . . but I digress.

My compressor puts out 15.6 CFM at 100 PSI and it is barely enough for a one man shop.
DA runs great, handles all the spray guns but the sandblast cabinet tests its limits. To me it is the smallest compressor that will get the job done right.

took the words out of my mouth! a person can say they got by and looks great to them
yet everyone else says,"why did you spray bed coating on parts of your car? whats them fish eye lookin things? why can i see the primer on that fender? whats them bubbles??"

then the forum gets,"what went wrong? what autozone product do i use to fix this?"

it would be a great stickie. dont know how many people would read it before posting, but would still be a great stickie- right under the stickie-"read the *** stickies before posting!" :knockout:

That CFM rating at 40 PSI is useless, if your compressor is like most, the tank will
be at 90 PSI or higher when the pump kicks on and that's what it's compressing against.
It'll never be pumping against 40 PSI.
So at 90 PSI your compressor will put out considerably less, and even
less at higher tank pressures like most compressors at around 125 to 150 PSI.
The higher the tank pressure, the less the pump puts out.
That 40 PSI rating is a sales gimmick.

The Next Sticky needs to be about Filters and Water Traps the differences between the two and why they are important along with using a dedicated air hose.

We all need to look back to when we all first started almost all of us thought there had to be a cheaper way! and Just wanted decent and didn't need to be perfect.
Which in turn all led to spending small fortunes learning the Hard way LOL.

How true is that.

Even after chucking out the REALLY bad purchases I still have half a shop of junk that I should not have bought, or that I had to replace anyway because it was cheap rubbish that didn't last. About 7 or 8 years ago I finally decided not to buy anything that didn't exceed my needs or come with a lifetime warranty. Purchase price was higher but I've spent way less in replacing stuff.
