Used Sata NR2000 vs New Devilbiss FLG5

Hi guys

I have a painter friend of mine who has a Sata NR2000 in very good condition back when he had his shop (retired now), willing to sell me the gun for $200. On the other hand I can buy a brand new Devilbiss FLG5 for $200 as well. I have heard and seen in videos (The Gunman specifically) that the FLG5 uses less paint and is very efficient, while the NR2000 uses more material.

I just do DIY jobs at home quite rarely, I'm not a full time painter or anything. What do you guys think and which would you pick?

Thanks!

Thanks. What are your reasons for that choice?

The SATA is HVLP, which is fine, but droplet size is much bigger, i.e. atomisation is less. It's ok for base coat and maybe primers. The FLG5 is an RP gun that is quite a bit newer. RP can actually give you higher transfer efficiency than HVLP, so less paint wastage. Fan is very wide and even, which is unusual in a gun at this price point.

I have an FLG5. I can't say it's comparable to my Pro Lites, but they are top shelf guns costing three times as much. That said, the FLG5 is well built and capable of really nice finishes, especially with 2K direct gloss and MS-HS clears (just need to bump the air pressure up another 5-7psi). The 1.4mm tip size is not really a drawback with the FLG5 since it atomises really well. The gun cleans up reasonably easily, only needing to pay attention to removing the cup and cleaning the joint well.

For base coat, reduce the pressure a bit and you'll get a really nice flat finish with minimal overspray.

Generally easy to set up, the FLG5 is a gun I'd recommend to amateurs as a primary gun that sprays way above its price point while for pros it's a handy gun to have as a reserve or, as I use it, for specific finishes.

i agree, the RP with give you better results when clearing
