Does any one on here have a 3D printer that you print out plastic clips and such that aren't reproduced. I am getting one shortly and would like to know if you have any tips.

We are on our second 3D printer which is an Ender-5 Pro. Awesome machine and very affordable at about $400 USD right now

I have my son do most of the modeling as he taught himself how to design in Solidworks which I use for my business. Solidworks is the 3d modeling standard but is also $$$$$ a seat.

I prototype and make parts with it, depending on the end use.

I also taught myself Autodesks Fusion 360 which used to be free, but I was told just this past weekend that they are now charging on a subscription basis - you can get a free 30 day trial and then it is about $60/mo after that.

I did just check the Autodesk website and it says that there is still a free "Personal" version.

From the Autodesk website:

When do these changes go into effect?
Changes to Fusion 360 for personal use are effective on October 1, 2020. To export any designs before these changes, do so before January 19th, 2021 via Fusion Team. The 10 active design document allowance will go into effect on January 19th, 2021
How long do I have access to Fusion 360 for personal use?
Fusion 360 for personal use is available for a 1-year term for qualifying users. Individuals need to reapply each year to check qualifications.

If you can do the research and get Fusion 360 free for personal use, do it. It is a very powerful design tool. Like ANY program you will need to put the time into it and there are some great University of YouTube videos.

It does look like Fusion 360 is still free for personal use.

Check out Lars Christensen for tutorials

Use two screens, have Fusion 360 running on one and follow along with Lars on the other.

Prototyped a few items for the Caddy.

The top right one below was 3D printed in Stainless from some website that I found.

Wow, that was worth waiting for....really impressed with what you can do with both the software and the machine itself. So are you guys mostly just doing this for yourselves or are you going to start doing this as somewhat of a business?

We use it for both work and play.

The blue part is a 3 piece prototype that tabs together. The final pieces were made of steel, welded together and powder coated black. They hold up a series of some expensive 5G radios over a bunch of expensive basketball players.

The white piece is part of a 4G radio cable shroud and that is an actual final production piece.

All designed in Solidworks , prototyped with the 3D printer and the final production runs are steel or aluminum and cut on a HUGE laser bed.

Those pieces could have been just as easily done with Fusion 360
