I picked up the Shinano for now for the epoxy prep - it's relatively cheap for a decent quality tool. I'll pick up a nice palm sander down the line.

Just a word of caution with any DA style sander. Because they usually have a lot of torque they need that long handle to "steady them" when in use. That however is part of the problem with using them for finer sanding. There is a tendancy to "tip" the sander as you use it and actually "dig in" when starting them up. We haven't used a DA style sander in our wood shops for at least 35 years. The RO style sanders can be controlled/handled much better for the kind of work you do with woods/metals.
