Hi Guys,

Stumbled across a 80 gal 2 stage unit from Husky.

Running horsepower 6 RHP
Air tank capacity 80 gal.
Air pressure 175 PSI max.
Air delivery
17.9 SCFM at 100 PSI
17.0 SCFM at 175 P

Numbers would work for me and really, I am doing 2 bike jobs a month. No desire to do a full car (I am in a residential area and the neighbors would scream). How bad is Husky? I believe they are a re branded Campbell H. I know it is not in the same league as a Quincey or an Eaton. Thoughts??

New or used?

If used, run it and make sure it's not spitting oil.

It will get you by, I had one to hold me over until I got my current compressor. I also only do small stuff myself and never had a problem spraying. Biggest thing that I have shot was a truck hood.

The DA on the other hand was a bit problematic.

It's new. A hood or a fender would be the biggest thing I would ever do. I do have a cheapo da sander but to be honest, I use a B&D electric and it seem to do the job quite well.

My compressor has the same specs but it is a Porter Cable.

It will handle most anything in a one man shop, even a blast cabinet.

Just be sure to have good filtration and water separation for those days when you are really working it.

O.K. well, I may have narrowed down my choice. In your opinion is the Porter Cable a much better unit or are they comparable? Also, what can you recommend for a water separator--I know there are cheap ones to avoid.

I use a Rapid Air 1’ regulator/water separator followed by a PneumaticPlus SAU4030M-N04DG-MEP Three Stage Air Drying System (1/2”) for all the shop air.
My spraygun air goes through and extra Devilbiss QC3 Desiccant filter

I never had a problem even when my Husky started puking oil into the system

Thanks, I'll look into those units.

I bought my compressor over a decade ago and it cost me $1000.00 back then.
My set up may be overkill but installed a flexible line from the compressor to a T in a vertical 3/4" copper line. Blow the T is a drop with a drain valve. Above the T the piping continues to just below the ceiling and then travels back and forth across a 8' wall dropping about 4".

From there it goes through one of these:

The into one of these:

Then back up and across a 12' wall to another vertical pipe with a T that goes through the wall and into the paint booth. The vertical pipe also has a drop with a valve on it.

Once inside the both I have Regulator/Water Separator similar to this:

Which then goes through a filter to the air hose.

I almost never have to turn the refrigerated drier on and rarely get any moisture that reaches the trap inside the booth.
