My gun is a siphon feed with a 2mm tip.Looking for advise on settings since this will be first time.High build is upol 4;1 tech sheet says 50-70 seconds with a zan 2 cup.So pretty thick i guess.
Plan on thinning a hair maybe not sure 10%?
So air at gun has its own reg 25-30psi ?
Fan all the way open then back a 1/2 turn?
Fluid Im not sure, say 2-3 turns open?
I plan on spraying thinner first against cardboard just to see.
Any help is appreciated

Because you haven't told us exactly which Upol primer you're using it's difficult to say for sure.

However, using their System 20 primer as an example, looking at the TDS shows:

Of course, your gun is a siphon feed, not gravity, so settings may be different. Some siphon feed guns need quite different settings for the siphon/venturi effect to work, especially with high viscosity primers.

You should also refer to the User Manual for your gun which may give you additional information, but generally, fluid flow should be all the way open then turned back in until you feel the beginning of pressure on the trigger. Fan start fully open then adjust in until spray pattern is even.

Testing your settings on some scrap is a good idea. You can fine tune according to what it's actually doing.

Ok thanks. High build yes system 20. Maybe they make more than one not sure. 2253v is the product.

So would I maybe go higher pressure being a siphon and such a thick product? I’ll have to check what came with my gun as for instructions Had it for years only have sprayed lacquer with it on wood work.

Hooked up my gun to air and I’m getting air leaking? It’s from the port regulator safety valve. Book says set to 10 psi. My pressures from my tank doesn’t seam to matter. Changed it from 80 to 50 and still get blow by. Is this normal can I proceed?

If I lower the tank pressure to 40lbs still does it but my gun quickly runs out of pressure.

Air compressor is big enough no problem there. Sprayed before but years ago can’t remember air leaking.

Thanks.

Did a test with some thinner and it seamed to spray really well against cardboard. So mixed up 200 ml worth of high build and flop !!crap!!! Stuff came out like texture ceiling spray. WTH?

Fluid open wide. Fan open wide. 2mm tip. 60 psi at tank 29 psi on gun regulator. So after the first quick spray I reduced it a little. Same thing splat splat. Arg.

Frig spent more time cleaning the gun.

Do some goggle I guess. Hope you guys are having a better day.

So goggle says tip was loose. Nope was good and tight. Pic of my 2.0 tip. Appears it’s a metal on metal seal. Can see a little taper assume that’s the sealed

Edit to add. Packing nut was also tight.

Ok so you were right about settings being different. Says nothing in my book about pressure at the gun. With a siphon feed gun you only need enough pressure to push fluid up the tube. 2-3psi. So when reading the TDS saying 26-29 psi that’s totally off. They even show a pic of a siphon feed gun. So anyway problem solved set pressure at gun about 2-3 psi and you’re good. If adjustments needed it’s 1-2psi either way.

The tell tail was the air leaking from the safety valve. It’s set to 10 psi. So that tells yeah your way to high. Anyway hope it helps someone in the future using a HVLP siphon gun.
