My Dad's shop, where I will be working on my old Volvo does have a 220v compressor with a decent sized upright tank, but I don't know the CFM rating. I was thinking I could go either type on a DA sander. What size pad do most sand paper disk come in? Many of the electric seem to favor the 5" size and air sanders the 6" size.

Is there a well reviewed electric version or a not professionally priced air type DA I should look at?

It all depends on what you're doing,
stripping or sanding?
I use electric for everything now, for stripping my
regular buffer works better than anything I've tried.
It's way to aggressive for regular sanding and finish work.
I have a Ingersol Rand air "grinder" that takes 5" pads and
it works really good for stripping too, but uses a lot off air and works
my compressor a lot so I prefer the electric buffer.
It's a matter of personal tastes, you'll get a lot of different
preferred choices from painters out there.

(It's not custom painting-it's custom sanding)
