Hey Guys and Gal's
I got a new Toy today
Image

I just got it unboxed and hooked up today. it took some readying and playing with it BUT it seams to work well.
I look forward to using it on heavy rust pitted areas for deep cleaning It removes rust and paint easily. It does heat up the metal though Have to play with it more and learn how to use it correctly very powerful. I haven't used it on any Project pieces yet just miscellaneous junk laying around the shop.

I been Playing with it very Powerful. It kills Rust Right now! doesn't mess around.
I am not impressed with it so far removing heavy Paint and Filler but light coatings are easily removed anything that's really thick it leaves debris behind that require more time with the Lazar or mechanical removal just depends on the material your working with trying to clean and how much heat your willing to put into them. I am very cautious and am not willing to overheat stuff. Stripping my Old Tractor and Skid loader for Paint will be a Breeze with this thing though cant wait to do those!

I am not gonna Lie, It will over heat a Panel on the Higher settings easily I know I tried on some scrap stuff their is a learning curve with it! still playing with it and learning.
The lower settings work well on skins and doesn't overheat anything as long as you don't leave it one spot too long definitely have to keep moving.

I tried to do some undercoating on an old wheel well off that 66 Nova yesterday It didn't like that, That was a disappointment but I am still playing with it it may do it yet.

Over all will I get rid of my Blaster ? NOPE! Not yet! The machine does have its place though I can see it doing a lot of good in the shop.

OH one more thing These are an extreme Fire Hazard you gotta have a fire guard present when your using it Guess how I know? Ya! Oh and it will set fire to some materials like Rubber/Tar sealant's used on a 66 Nova LOL
:rotfl:

It's not a cheap toy that's for sure. Nor do I think every one needs one BUT I do a lot of Rust repair on all the old junk I have and work on so I can see a benefit for it in my shop. I wished I had spent a little more and had gotten all the Welding stuff for it though I really wanna try that. I can add it on latter But would have been cool to have it now.

I will definitely enjoy not having to do as much Blasting. Its Messy and you never get it all out of the car. I always have to go get more media, its a Pain not to mention a waste of money! unless you make an area were you can blast and recover the media and restrain it.
That costs money to build too so .....

With you on that!

Lucky someone mentioned "laser" later in the thread. When I first saw the photo I thought it was a car frig. :knockout:

Looks like fun though. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Its cool to play with that's for sure but its dangerous at same time. definitely not a toy.

I used it to clean the metal before painting epoxy on 66 Nova project instead of a wash and doing my usual wash with Axalta 5717s and then 5718s. I just shot the metal at a lower power setting It worked just fine. That eliminates Cost of chemicals and cleaning time!
EXCEPT were there was left over glass material at the lower Lazar setting it would not eliminate the left over Glass grains. I probably could of turned it up a bit more and evaporated them but I did not try. In hind sight it might have worked? the idea was tojust clean the metal not over heat it or remove more than just finger prints and oils & grease things of that nature b4 paint, I have to say I was impressed! I wanna say it killed any Static electricity attraction too BUT I cant swear by it nor can I claim that.
But over all it came out clean besides a little left over Blasting material I had done prior to body work.

At this Point right now I see it as a tool just like I look at my Mig its a tool.
I am not a fan of Mig welding a lot of people know that...each of the welding process Mig TIG OR GAS welding each has its place in my opinion. They are just a Tool they are all good for a Particular thing no one tool fits all the requirements of a job so you have to chose which tool to use for each job.
Using a Lazar and using a Blasting is just another example as each has its place in my opinion!

IF I had the equipment to DIP a car I would! Hands down Dipping is the way to go!
Its way cool! IF you have the all the tanks to follow the whole process through and put the Protection layer on!!!!

If you know what I am talking about? Dipping IS NOT just a one tank deal to do right!
It should be at least three dips to do it right! and it takes a week or more! to do it right!
Its expensive! Plus I would have to ship my projects long distances to get to a facility that could do those processes! As a Low Buck restoration shop trying to make a living a Lazar makes more sense. Not to mention not having to deal with the EPA, Feds, STATE, and a Host of others a Lazar makes a lot of sense in my opinion.
It was worth trying it out, I am ok with its limitations so far!? as if I know all of what they are it will save me time and money? so far Yes!

Lazar rust removal KILLS rust!, Paired with Cold Galvanizing and Quality Epoxy your looking at the Ultimate in my opinion! Thats what I do to my cars!

Protecting the metal is another story all together! I have been preaching metal coatings for years! Epoxy works, until the coating it damaged! then what do you have? bare steel?
I my self prefer a little more!
I will continue with my Cold metal Galvanizing treatments even after Blasting AND Lazar cleaning myself! IF my customers are willing to pay for it they too can have it done in my shop. All my personal cars get the treatment.

Good information, Dennis! Maybe when the price comes down, like big screen TV's!
