A pad slipped off of my mounted bike rack this weekend and left a really deep and wide scratch on the area near my license plate. Based on my research, this would seem to cost a heck of a lot to get repaired. Before I take it in for an estimate, I was hoping to get some general thoughts about the nature of this scratch from the forum. Is this something that could be reasonably repaired by an amateur? Looks to be all the way to the metal...

Depends on how good the amateur is. its going to need to be blended and the complete lid cleared. if you don't have the tools and facility to do it take it to a shop, check your insurance if you have full coverage and see what your deductible is. some shops in my area will work around the deductible.
