So I am trying to finish up this truck, it has a box on the back like a ambulance almost. Have it sanded down w/320, some filler on the corners and in a spot on the side. I didn’t do the sanding but it’s down the aluminum in some spots, filler showing in some spots, other areas still have the topcoat just sanded with 320. All we have is 2k primer and the topcoat. No sealer, no etching for the bare metal. Can I just paint the whole thing with the 2k, and sanding it once more with some guidecoat to be safe?

Most 2K primers (urethane) are not for bare metal.
Check the tech sheet to be sure.
Most 2K primers I've used say they can be over bare metal only if it's a small
spot, like 2" or less.
For bare metal you need a etch or epoxy.

So do I spray etch on all the sanded thru spots (where the aluminum is showing) and prime the spots where the filler is showing, then seal the whole thing before topcoat? I’m new to this, and I’m trying to learn. Want to learn the right way, but it’s all about “corner cutting” at this place says the boss and owner. We do have some DTM “etching” hifi primer - it’s like 200$ a gallon. Depending on how you mix it, it’s does different things. Or so the company claims.

Keep any etch away from body filler, they are not compatible.
Use epoxy primer for any bare metal around fillers and you'll be fine.
I just use epoxy only, because it is compatible with anything.
When in doubt, I epoxy it. It's a great sealer too.
