Does it depend on size of the flake?
For my Mustang, I'll be spraying Ford Nightmist Blue Poly. The metallic is very fine.
Do you filter metallic paint?

YES I DO i believe almost all OEM color materials can be strained. do it and look in the filter, if you see a lot of flake in the filter then punt.

I have never used the really BIG flake used in Boats and on some custom stuff but I filtered all the small flake and pearls I have used and never had a problem with it going through paint filters I use. Dennis B.

Thank you both for the responses. I'm a long way out from paint but will filter it when I do.
