Got some Tamco 2021 on the 442 today. Really liked the basecoat they supplied, the 2021 on the other hand... well, nothing wrong with Tamco, I think HS clears are just not my style, pretty sure I'll be ordering up some 2100 and give it a shot. I overreduced and sprayed the HS on nice and wet, but it didn't flow like I would like. I'll be doing a light cut n buff on this hood. Underside of the decklid and fender jamb did fine.
We'll see how it cuts and buffs, maybe I'll love it after all. Oh and Chris once you start DA colorsanding you'll never want to go back to hand sanding. It's absolutely the best for the large flat areas and so fast.
Check this HC-2100 shot out

Definitely give the 2100 a go, it works well without reducing. I tried to use my randon orbital da with a interface pad using 1500 dry and wet followed by 3000 wet and I just couldnt get good results. I seemed to get lots of curly cues even going slow and constantly blowing off the sand paper and panel, and after trying to buff, the panel was still somewhat cloudy. Any tips, thanks.

If you are getting pigtails then maybe your backing pad is dirty or there's some junk in the paper or bad paper. We got some freebie paper to try and it had what looked like 100 grit random scratches in it. Entire package right into the trash. I only wet sand, and all by hand.

I guess I need to bump my air press up a bit spraying HC2100 , if you guys are getting it to lay flat without reducing, I`ll try 60 psi at the reg like Chris said

Pigtails are most definitely bad news! I have found when I use the 1500 and I start to get some after repeatedly cleaning the paper and surface, it just means it's time for a new piece of paper. I may use 5-6 to do say a hood or roof. I'd rather buy paper than deal with pigtails for sure! And keep DA speed on the low side. It's still a slow process but 10X faster than by hand and DA scratches (not pigtails) seem to buff out quicker than hand scratches, especially the stray deep ones you sometime get

I think I said "60 PSI at the wall" -- the gun is probably seeing around 35-36 PSI at the handle. Put a good quality gauge temporarily at your gun handle, test this out and write down your settings in your painter's notebook. Make sure you are using the slowest activator you can for your conditions. Also, no harm in 5% to 10% reducer if you need to.

I found when using a DA to color sand that three things were necessary to prevent pig tails:
1. Good quality film discs 2. Slow the DA down so there is no vibration 3. A constant flow of filtered water to the pad I say filtered water because it only takes one speck of sand to cause lots of problems in a hurry. I believe the water DAs are a great idea but the whole process is messy for sure. 1968 Coronet R/T

68 Coronet, I received my RM-Diamont paint and was wondering if I can use 0 voc urethane reducer? I've been using said reducer for my Pro Spray basecoats with no problem but wanted to make sure. Would it be better to go with regular Voc reducer? This is some old leftover stock that I got on the cheap, thanks.
