I have a beater car that I just want a quick paint job on. I haven't painted since the lacquer days but want to make this thing look a little better. What paint should I use? I don't want to buff. I don't like all of the nasty overspray of enamel. What would be a decent, easy paint to use? It was suggested to go to the farm store and get some tractor paint. Is that enamel? What do you all think. Thanks for your suggestions.

I would get some Nasons S/S urethane it dries quick as compared to enamels so less chance of dirt getting on your work. and over spray will be less likely to stick on everything.

One quick side note. You need to spray single stage paint much wetter than you are probably used to. Sprays more like a clear coat than a base coat.

Urethane sounds like buffing will be needed. This thing is a beater and just needs to be all one color. What's the next thing better than spray cans? Really don't want to buff. Thanks all for your help.

They cheap duplicolor at the autoparts stores like advanced auto and AutoZone might be another alternative to check out

No buffing necessary if you spray it properly. Small amount of orange peel is seen even on factory paint jobs. Of course buffing will always make it look much better.

FYI orange peel is on purpose for factory finishes, it hides stamp lines and dents in the panels. it would be a good idea to leave a little peel

:goodpost: one wouldn't think that but your right. I have noticed a lot of newer cars lately with very smooth paint work on them though, not all mind you. or maybe my eyes are not what they use to be.

The factories do a much better job now of fit and finish due to better manufacturing processes, so they don't need as much peel. Tamco makes any color you need, and priced very affordable.
