I would like to paint one of our business trucks neon yellow. I’ve been learning that nobody has a UV resistant formula yet.
Current options are: HOK Chartruesa yellow, or autoflex coatings polaris yellow.
I’d like to get a decent 5 years. I haven’t found to much info on how long these hold up, especially the HOK. I’m willing to compromise the neon for some other bright yellow. Any suggestions?
Trying to turn heads and force people to look at the business-logo, and create a brand within the community.
Thank you,
Ryan

Yeah, go base/clear....buy premium clear coat.... done...... All colors do some shifting while aging. I don't think the 5 year goal is unreasonable...... Top vinyl wrap guys around me are now using a 7 year vinyl wrap which they are putting (I think) a 3 year warranty on....problem with most good wrapping though is that it is running about the same as a paint job.

Which clear would you recommend? Or which provides the best UV? Does sheen have an affect?
Thanks

The car in my avatar has PPG 2021 clear on it. That paint job is 26 years old now (it is garage kept though) and has about 60,000 miles on it over that time. Local and national shows, long vacations, etc. I compared a stock paint sample code to it the other day, little to no fading at all...... If you look on the Store Front here you'll see that Chris is selling a Tamco 2021 clear for much less than you would pay for the original. I'll tell you, even if that stuff was only 80 to 90% as good as the original I'd still buy it at that pricing. The only down side (for those of us that use our own elbow grease) to that type of clear is you better get on the cut and buff within a reasonable time period or the stuff gets pretty hard. Oh, almost forgot....sheen shouldn't make that big of a difference but anything less than gloss is a pain to take care of.....

there is no such thing. dump all the clear you want on it dont matter...

Neon WILL fade and turn white in months. you would be lucky to get a summer out of it.

neons are for graphics on garaged show cars.

you would be better off doing a wrap.

and so you know a neon wrap will have a shorter life span than the 5 or 7 year warranty they tell you.

here is a link describing lightfastness
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightfastness

neon pigments are VERY limited lightfastness, on anything, clothes, vinyl, paint, whatever.
thats why they turn white, the sun pretty much destroys all the neon pigment leaving the stronger white pigment. there is a lot more to this of course and im sorry for going on and on but just trying to keep you from making a very big mistake
