Single stage is just that one product to apply.

Single stage in a solid color can be cut and buffed to remove imperfections but it is not recommend for metallic colors.

BC/CC requires two products, the base coat (color) and the clear coat which protects the base coat. Obviously this is twice the work but there are plus sides to this process. If a mistake is found or made in the base coat it can be fixed before applying the clear coat. Also if there is orange peel or some dust in the final coat of clear it can be cut and buffed providing you have enough clear on the vehicle.
