I have this bumper on my truck and trying to figure out if I should just paint it or does these dings come out with effort. It is from a Roll-a-Long package and everything has been welded to the chassis, way too much work to put another bumper on with that specific mounts. I know to paint the chrome it should be sanded to 80 grit, can I use epoxy primer then paint or have to use a self-etch then epoxy, paint? The chrome pieces are removable in two sections attached by bolts and fairly thin metal (I am guessing its more of an appearance look like they are just covers over the actual bumper. Does anyone think these could be reworked but would it really stand out? Not very familiar with trying to salvage chrome. |
If the chrome comes off why not just replace the pieces?

maybe its just the picture but it looks like its bent down on the drivers side. if you can take the chrome panels off see if you can take them to a sand blaster and have him just etch them up real good then epoxy coat and color. don't try and blast the chrome completely off , it will probably destroy the metal. its not easy to blast chrome off, good chrome that is.

you can probably sand most of that chrome off to the copper underneath.
then use a etch primer and 2k primer. sand 320 and paint or have them rechromed Experienced Trained Certified

So I have the bumper apart and I am almost positive it is stainless steel not chrome. What are my best options with that? It is maybe 20g steel or just a hair thicker. These are like overlays or wraps of an extruded steel bumper. I really do not want to grind out the hitch and mount plates because then I should remove the gas tank or tanks. Just trying to get an acceptable appearance.

80 grit etch primer then prime and sand. pray

Yeah??? Is it that bad with stainless? Would something like SEM etch primer in a spray can work? Only asking because I only need enough for the two sides.
