for what your doing I would scuff it a little with a scotch bright pad and then wash or clean with wax and grease remover. getting it clean is what your after, then go to your paint.

Just for the sake of some one looking this topic up in the future I have to add my two cents I get it that your only painting a computer case and I get it your on a Budget but your topic thread asks how its done the right way, and I will add to what I said in your other post asking basically the same question how and what to use on Aluminum the right way.

Does the Aluminum Have any Value? Do you care how long it lasts?
Do you care if it starts corroding later in the short future?

Aircraft Aluminum is Treated by a Mild Acid bath etching it followed by a bath of Alodine Then it is Painted with a Epoxy Primmer rich in Zinc followed by a Real paint such as "Deltron" made by the late company Dupont.

Aluminum does not Rust it Corrodes and it starts corroding as soon as it is made within seconds. Most Aluminum's have a coating of "CLAD" on it which is a coating of Pure Aluminum over the surface this is generally Tens of thousandth thick coating extremely thin and very soft. This is applied so it corrodes to protect the Base material.

Once Corrosion starts in Aluminum there is no stopping it there is only controlling it
or removing it but there is no stopping it.

Ummmm, Deltron is a PPG product, Dennis.

DuPont equivalents may be Centari 6000 but the Standox solvent base is probably closer. You're right though, high quality paint over properly prepared substrate is the key. Most paint companies have one or a few products that are specifically made for aluminium.
