Hey folks,

I had my 78 Camaro dash cowls rebuilt, new dash panel, side cowl panels, inner cowl panel and so forth.

The new panels were electro black primed, I am currently stripping the door jamb on one side (wire wheel) and want to epoxy primer it, the black electro prime is tough stuff and does not want to budge, the areas where it’s been welded are clean and raw,
.

I am after ideas on how to prime these area, that is areas that are 95 percent electroprimed and 5 percent raw steel, should I just use a normal primer, the areas that I am stripping original to he car are going in 2k epoxy primer

Thanks for any help

Steve

I normally scrub the panels with soapy water and a maroon Scotchbrite pad (about 400 grit) to dull the surface.
Rinse, blow dry and then wipe with W&G remover making sure to wipe dry with a clean towel.

Let that flash and then shoot a couple of coats of epoxy primer. No need to strip the panels if the e-coat is firmly adhered.

Thanks, I always thought epoxy primer could only go on bare metal

No, it just needs some scratch for real good adherence.
