Hi All,
Im new to the world of autopainting but Im here because I wanted to paint my own motorcycle and be able to say that I did it.
After a lot of youtube and reading I decided that I wanted to do a marblized paint job, black base, with gold base on top and seran wrapped, and then a red candy on top.
I've painted a couple of test panels on yard signs ( they are metal and cheap $0.79 ) now (and have a couple of questions:
1) After applying and removing the seran wrap the surface becomes very textured, including some "striping" from the seran wrap itself. I'm guessing that its ok to wet sand the base coats back to smooth before applying the candy ( not done in attached photo )
2) In some cases the base coat to be seran wrapped off dries a little two quickly and leaves more of the top base color than I desire ( see one end of the test panel ) should I just apply the paint thicker, or is there a way to slow the dry time? A run does not seem to be an issue since you are going to lift paint off but maybe I'm wrong?
Im using urethane from thecoatingstore.com.

Any advice would be appreciated!!
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I initially looked at HOK marblizer but I wasnt sure that I would be able to get the same end color combination result that I was after so I didnt go that route.
Will sanding with 600 - 800 grit over the "lift-off" base coat reduce that texture that is showing in the picture or is there a better way? Thanks |

DONT sand the Base coat!!!!!
Sand the Clear coat BUT not all the way down to the Base coat just enough to flatten things out. Then Respray the clear coat, after That you can sand and polish the clear as a normal finish. Dennis B.
