I'm using Omni MBC base coat with Advantage 545 urethane clear coat. Everything went fine until I put the second coat of clear coat on and got runs in it. It took 3-4 hours before the clear coat was dry enough to sand the runs out and in the process I took some of the base coat off. Then when I tried to touch up the base coat the clear coat lifted. Apparently I went past the recoat window. My question is how long should I let the clear coat cure before sanding out the lifted places proceeding with the touch up and recoat? The weather here has been about 100 degrees and dry.

What are you using for activator and reducer speeds?
Did you activate the base coat? 1968 Coronet R/T

I used Advantage 548 slow activator for the Advantage 545 urethane clear coat. The base coat was thinned with Omni MR 187 thinner. |
3-4 hours is way too soon to start sanding almost any clear. Give it 24-48 hours, preferably out in the sun, and check your TDS that there isn't a witholding period.
Spot prime or seal the rub throughs and use light coats of base. Chris

The TDS sheets are always in pdf and my computer doesn't have the software to read it. They had better than normal instructions on the can but still fill the label with more hazard warnings than any useful information. |
That's really not a good reason.
Mainstream browsers are all capable of displaying pdf files. If you use Windows or Mac a free version of Adobe Reader is available at http://www.adobe.com. Most Linux distros install a pdf reader by default, with alternatives available in their repos. Chris

My computer just won't do PDF files at all. Any time I try to open one I get a pop up message saying the software to open it doesn't exist. I managed to get a virus in my computer a couple years ago that took out Adobe. My son worked on the computer and got most of the virus out but some of it must still be there. I tried the link you supplied this morning and it loaded about 5% of the reader and then canceled. |
Yeah, I had that happen with a virus at one time......Geek squad ended up doing a "remote" repair over the phone with me. It indeed was the last bits of the virus interfering with the loading of the pdf stuff. Once they established a remote link to my computer it took them about 5 minutes to fix everything......

I hate people who make and distribute Viruses.

I know we're getting off topic here but how can you live with that? How do you know that what's remaining of the virus isn't still doing harm to you and perhaps to others? Viruses spread aggressively meaning that your computer is a risk. Not just to other computers connected to it, either by wire or by wifi, but this virus could be making you part of a botnet or even continuing to spread malware.
Don't just put up with it, fix the problem and get back your productivity. Apart from paid services, there are ways to remove almost any virus, even if you have to format the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. Don't have the original OS disk? Download a Windows 7 licence for $10 or make the switch to Linux for free and live in a virus free world. Chris
