clear over single stage

Just finshed a single stage solid color catalized urethane paint job.At this point I am leaning on shooting clear over it.I do have some minor orange peal.If I wet sand with 600 grit can I shoot several coats of clear & then cut & buff? My concern is seeing 600 sand scratches when I am done.I know I could 1000/1200/1500/2000 & then machine polish but I am liking the idea of burrying the color with clear.Looking forward to your suggestions.

you can cut and buff the color or as you want clear it then cut and buff. in the end I don't think you'll be able to tell the difference. your ok to sand with 600 and clear that's one of the ways its done, no sand scratches will show. what's the color? if its a light color your going to want to be careful with getting it dirty wash and wipe it down carefully.

after cutting with with 600 grab a gray scotch brite and scrub it good with water gets all the dirt out of the scratches

After spending all afternoon wet sanding w/600 I still had sections that were not completely without pits.I am now going to shoot another color coat ( the first coat allways flows nice & slow in my workshop) & then start with the clear.I was very surprised how hard the paint got only after 2 days. am using tamco's 2-1 urethane.Keep the comments coming.(shooting dark red)
