I am converting my car over to AC and I was going to paint all of my parts a new color. I have a mix of my old dash parts (the brown) and the grey ones from an AC car.

My plan was to;
1. Use AP01 adhesion promoter
2. Use reduced down DP90LV Epoxy Sealer
3. Shoot some SS as my local paint place couldn’t get any non-metallic Base Coats???? (Whole other story)
4. Top the SS with some Satin Clear that I have

The new guy at my local jobber (only one in town) said that they didn’t have any non-metallic basecoats (no non-metallic browns in California??) and sold me some Single Stage that I said was ok as I had some satin clear at home. He didn’t give me a tech sheet and I couldn’t remember the mix ratio.

When I downloaded the PPG Data Sheet, it lists three components;
The Paint ESSS – I have
Hardener ESH200 - I have
Activator ESX5__ - Which I don’t have

The new guy at my local jobber (he’s new because a big company bought the place and they fired the two guys that had worked there for over 10 years) sold me just the first two components and not the activator

• I assume that I need the activator or can I just mix the ESSS 6:1 with the ESH200 Hardener?

I sure hope the guy didn’t screw me out of shooting the SS this weekend as it is starting to cool down around here and I don’t have too much more time until I am shut down for the winter (no heat in the pig barn!)

Ha, ha! No doubt he is painting something.

To the OP,
I am not super familiar with these polyurethane enamels but from reading what you posted the activator will be necessary for this paint to set properly. Living in California is really starting to suck according to a few of my friends there.

I don't buy paint from my local jobbers, too expensive.
Tamco, available through this site, Automotive Art (Motobase LV), available from Chad's Autopaint in Michigan, and another site I can't name here are my main suppliers. Paint arrives at my door.

I purchase a lot of my materials from both Tamco and what I think is "that Other site"

But I also (used to) buy from my local guys as they were a great source of info and helped a lot when trying to find a specific color.

It was also nice when I needed something right away and couldn't wait a week and a half.

Oh well, I will be driving to the town that near my shop more I guess. They just matched me a quart of solvent (Omni Plus) for another part of my interior that matches my leather perfect - While the guy that gave me only 2/3 of what I needed couldn't match a non-metallic dark brown????
