So I’m a newbie that finally wanted to start all the various rock chips on the car. Along the way I wasn’t careful and got some self-etching primer on the paint surrounding the rock chip and has now dried on top of the paint.

I’m wondering what Would be the best way to remove the primer from on top of the paint.

Also, I see people don’t like aerosol self-etching primer but that was all I could find in the parts store. What and where else would I find some non aerosol-based self-etching primer?

Thanks!

if the painted surface was sanded then your ok. I use shaker can etch for small spots and numerous small projects. see your local autobody jobber for bulk products.

Thanks Jay D. The affected area wasn’t sanded. That’s the factory paint job beneath. Is there something that would take the primer off? Or would I need to sand that area down and repaint it?

enamel reducer would probably take it off. BUT be careful what you use try a small spot and try not to saturate the finish. you could use buffing compound and buff it off also.

As Long as the paint ain't new paint and its dont look like its been painted in the last 20 days beside the overspray just use some lacquer thinner or enamel reducer but lAcquer thinner something u can come by at auto parts store cheaply just put a small amount on a rag and wipe over it and then use the dry side of rag to wipe it completely off.
