Hi all, great to join this forum. I've read the stickies regarding metal prep and paint and have found them to be highly informative.

I have a rust spot on my rear wheel arch (please see pic). I am contemplating either painting in myself with the necessary prep (sand to bare metal, epoxy coat primer, autobody filler etc...) as per the sticky or bringing it to a garage to have them weld in a piece of metal and finish it.

My question is: Can this be done at home using aerosal cans (1k spray paint cans colour matched and 2k clear (spray max)) (i know one of the stickies mentioned to avoid using spray paint can's, but it's all i have at the moment). Thank you.

:welcome: Truthfully that corner will need to be replaced, and using shaker cans the color probably isn't going to match even close. that's a job for a person with the right tools and the knowledge to use them.

Thank you, that's what I figured. I have a pretty decent body shop around my area who is charging $600 to weld in a new piece of sheet metal and paint. I'm assuming this is a reasonable price. Is this typically the cost for a job like this.

if they do a reasonable job that's a GOOD price, but don't be surprised if they find more than what you see there and the cost going up.

Price sounds very reasonable if its done correctly?
I am glad I don't do this stuff for a living just too many guys out there cutting each others throats for business.
