Paint codes for trim/lower claddings

I run into this problem a lot and no one seems to have a good answer. Color books help sometimes, but not always. What tricks do you guys have for finding this? Sometimes the color is matte, sometimes gloss. Sometimes the dealership can help, sometimes no. Specifically using PPG systems.

your jobber doesn't have a computer scanner. I've had good luck with them but also some that weren't close.

Most cars don't have a code for trim. The Buick Encore is a common issue. I have a dealership that sprays a lot of those, so that painter knows them and helps me sometimes. The truck I looked at yesterday was a 2018 Nissan Titan and the trim code said 'P', but this didn't pull up the color. The truck was G41 black with a dark gray bottom. We called Nissan (our usual route) but their computers didn't show it either. Color books are good, if the shop has that specific year.

I know that Mercedes have their codes for trim on plate/sticker with the other codes so if you ever paint one of those you find them there.
