I had painted a few panels on a car using AdVantage 545 clear coat and need to touch up the finish again. http://secure.hmswarehouse.com/tech/adv ... 545tds.pdf I still have a half gallon of the clear but the hardener has dried up. I looked on the internet and it appears the product isn't made anymore. Is there another brand of hardener that could be used with it? If not what clear coat would you guys recommend changing to? The base coat is PPG MBC.

It was odd the damage to the finish. It had cured for a couple of months and I had to cover the car because of a threat of several hail storms. I covered the car with furniture blankets and then laid plywood over the top. It took about a week for the threat of hail storms to pass and when I took the wet blankets off the car the finish was damaged. It look like goose bumps on your skin.

Yikes Not good got any Pictures?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news But it sounds like It may all have to come off.
Don't ask me why or How But it would not be the first Paint job to be ruined by covering it then getting rained on. The cause of this is a complete mystery to me as to WHY it happens.

I don't believe the factory finish was affected. It was just the trunk lid I painted and one fender a body shop had done. The spot doesn't photograph very well. I can tell the texture isn't in the base coat and the affected clear doesn't have any air under it, just texture. Had my supplies not gone bad I think I could have smoothed it out and clear coated it again and it would have been alright. I realize the best thing to do would be to refinish it but I'm not up to the task right now.

I don't understand why it happened either. I had done that before to a car I painted with lacquer and there wasn't any issues with it. I expected urethane to be more water resistant.

I plan to spray a coat of clear over the existing paint on the roof and hood and upper doors of a 2001 landrover. Existing paint is still good except for a couple ofareas where the old clear has been thinned out. The existing paint has been wet sanded with 1000 fine sand paper.

I have a quart of ppg acrylic urethane DAU-75 and a pint of urethane hardner DU-5, and also a quart of Transtar 6534 acrylic urethane in case if I run out of the DAU-75.

Can some paint experts here tell me if these chemical will work on my car?

Thank you in advance
