I got two paint samples for 1969 Ford T code 2008-A. As you can see they are completely different. They were both painted the same. So for you guys with older ford candy apple red paint, What did you do, mix paint until you liked the color or get it mixed from a paint shop. If they use the same code should the color not come out the same. I can see shops color coming out SLIGHTY different but not like this. What did you do to get to the original color red?

What brand paint did you get?

I have found by experience that you have to move up the quality ladder to get properly mixed paint that matches your color code/sample.

Also, some candies and pearls are tri-stage paints. You have a layer 1 base, a layer 2 base and then the clear coat.

The few colors I've done, I took samples of the color I wanted to them (Glove box door, plastic kick panel, trunk hinge, etc....) and let them match it. My local PPG store matched it perfectly that way.

I've only had my supply shop do a camera match a few times, and it never matched perfectly. Once, a maroon color I wanted, came back to me as a dark PINK!
I always do a spray out, then call the supply house and get some of the tints they use to fine tune the color. I also have lots of HOK Candy concentrates, and they help sometimes.
Your Candy Apple Red color (not a true Candy paint) should be VERY red, not too maroon.

The Candy Apple Red was a very popular color during the late sixties. PPG, Dupont, RM Diamont, Sherwin Williams all have color codes listed for it.

I suggest you do some more research into suppliers. Any of the premium lines by the major brands should provide a cross reference for the M2008.

68 Coronet, you reminded me of a Torino I did for a guy. I'm sure it was the correct color, as he was a stickler for detail, and it was a Cobra Jet car. So here's another view of the Candy Apple Red.

Yes, I noticed there seem to be shade difference. Could be due to the angle and lighting but possibly factory quality control not being what it is today.

I did a '68 Mustang in Candy Apple Red about 30 years ago  and it would probably have fallen in between the colors posted in the picks.

Personally I like the darker look for a Candy Apple Red. Maybe a black sealer would be a help in that regard.
