how about a picture of what you want to do. I assume your talking about the roof. what I have done is paint and clear the roof section the let it dry and cover it up and do the rest of the car. it take a little longer and involves a little more work, but if you get into the fresh paint its going to take longer.

3' ladder is good, but you need a loop on it so you don't have to lean on the car.

This is what I use for painting trucks and other vehicles with hard to reach areas. Just keep track of where the air hose is at all times. Generally I draped the air hose over my shoulder to keep it behind me and off of the freshly painted surfaces.

NOTE: a painter's suit and gloves are mandatory especially when leaning/reaching over freshly sprayed paint.

Kosmoski uses a two step ladder with a hoop even on a Camaro. Perfection in motion

Paint it on a Rotisserie

These are not of my rotisserie or my projects.

I have also built a Platform I could climb onto and lay on or kneel on so I could paint roofs and then have some one roll me back and forth.
I have abandoned this since getting my Rotisserie.

If money isn't a consideration then yes a rotisserie is ideal. For now I am still using the ladder.

Ya! I would Love to see it! I love Packards especially Clippers.

Besides that its not always practical to mount a car on a Rotisserie.
