I used a stud gun to pull the dents and shrink the metal when repairing this hood.
Working the oil canned area from outside to center.
I have a shrinking disc now that allows even better finished results.
Hood dents..

I ordered h&s stud welder, shrinking tips, and a couple matin hammers.
I saw this when looking around..can anybody tell me what it is/how it’s used? It says it’s to be used with a stud welder... https://www.ebay.com/itm/86Pcs-Stud-Wel ... Swzi5dPqpu |
Sorry, way more involved than the one I bought and a lot cheaper too.
I've got a monster stud gun, puller and 3 tips in a metal case. 1968 Coronet R/T

Hard to capture the true surface in bare metal but it’s a lot better. I learned that on this thin metal you can’t do more than tap the trigger without burning through.
I also bought a “studlever” it feels cheap but i gotta say it definitely helps the situation. |

I think from this point I’ll have to bolt the fenders/hood on the car and be sure the hood isn’t tweaked in that corner before I try shrinking.
Hypothetical situation...if I did shrink the metal too much how would I fix that with no access to the back side? |

BONDO! just be careful and go slow feel what your doing. guide coat and block if you have to too see what your doing. just using the nails will shrink areas slightly. good idea to put the front all together to see how it fits with the hood. you are twisting your nails off instead of bending them back and forth. the later tends to make holes in the sheet metal sometimes.
