Can you use a rattle can epoxy primer on small bare metal spots before spraying the filler primer?
|
1K epoxy? Haven't seen that before. All the epoxies I've used have been two part.
I'd be very wary of using any spray can product that isn't specifically designed for automotive use. Is your filling primer rated for DTM (down to metal)? If so, a separate primer (i.e. epoxy) is not needed, especially for small areas. Chris

Yes, it's dtm high build urethane primer
Maybe cut it down a bit with reducer ? |
Not necessary. Just flick the edges out a little and sand before you apply top coats.

I've been using Mipa 1k epoxy for several small parts and also on bare metal burn troughs before covering with 2k primer. So far no issue.
I allways keep some rattle can primers around for when i mess up small stuff in the primer stages. |
Hmm, I wouldn't think any of those would belong on a car I cared about. 1968 Coronet R/T

Curiosity got the better of me, so I looked up the TDS for
Mipa 1K epoxy. It didn't say so, but I suspect it's moisture cured and if so, would be crosslinked similar to a 2K. I don't think Mipa is sold in the States, but KBS sells some moisture cured stuff... "If you can't move it, paint it." - U.S. Army
