Robert, acrylic enamel poly/metallic is very hard to spray. I suspect you have the fluid control too open or the air pressure is too low, or the paint is under-reduced. What are your intentions; to sand it smooth and cover with a lighter glamor coat? That will work but it's difficult to do unless you've sprayed lots of acrylic enamel in the past. What you see is what you get with A/E, and there's no going back to repair mistakes. If it was a non-poly solid color, A/E would be fine to use, but A/E metallics are very tough to spray.
It'll cost more, but a better solution would be to sand it smooth, cover with a urethane basecoat, and then clearcoat....
