Why is this a darker shade?

So this area was white and flaky with dead clear coat. After wet sanding with 600 then 2000 this darker island appears from underneath. Could this be the darker original paint and everything else around is just sun faded?

you are most likely correct. look somewhere were it hasn't been exposed to sun light and see if its close to that. door jamb, underside of trunk lid, or underside of hood.

It looks darker for two reasons.

Firstly the now exposed basecoat has weathered to a darker colour and, secondly, it contrasts with the failed clear that still surrounds it.
