i haven’t used anything really in the past, so my experience is nil. i have used nason AE once before, and other than getting a run, which i know was my fault, i really liked it.
random web search followed by a phone call and i found a product called Besa Nato. it is supposedly a DTM paint, no primer required, even over aluminum. or so says the sales rep! internet search didn’t help me much, cause i’m not totally sure what i’m looking at. has any one here used it, or know anything about it? it’s close to price of nason fulthane, which is over double what the eastwood ss urethane would cost me. however the coverage difference may negate any difference, if those numbers are anywhere near correct.
questions on painting aluminum boat.

I wouldn't use the dtm top coat its probably ok for some machinery or something like that, but not for a aluminum boat. your going to need all the adhesion you can find for a aluminum boat. you'll get that with epoxy. if you liked the AE Nasons you'll really like the Fulthane, its a good economy urethane top coat. you have never said what size boat you have maybe a picture would help in estimating how much paint your going to need.

this is what the boat is supposed to look like, but mine is a stern drive. same paint scheme, just changing the flat grey to a metallic grey or silver, and a nicer red, maybe also metallic.

NICE BOAT, looks like you won't need to much red. I would guess 2 qt for the red, this is going to give you right close to 3 qt ready to spray. I'm thinking you should be able to go around the boat one time with a gun full just short of a qt. are you going to paint the complete bottom? when looking at Nason Fulthane you want the IB not the IS. i'm not sure what the IB and the IS stand for, I did at one time but I've got the CRS can't remember s*** problem. I use the IB.

i would like to paint the whole bottom, but not sure if i’m going to be able too. will probably spray what i can, then just roll the spots above the rollers after moving the boat back on the trailer a bit. thought about putting it on a rotisserie, or just on blocks, but not sure how people paint the bottoms all at once.

Just a thought but why not paint the gray down from the red to rib then leave it natural aluminum from their down. but as I was typing I thought its probably all ready painted.

ya, it’s already painted. but i figure if i spray as far under as i can, then roll everything else, no one will ever see the difference.
