Epoxies do NOT like any acid pre-treatments. So either a mechanical means of removing the rust, or if you do use an etch, be very careful to neutralize it, and then dry it VERY quickly to avoid more flash rusting. Compressed air, and a spray down with denatured alcohol gets things dry quickly.

So filthy as, even after paint stripping the block

Best I could do was wire wheel the block, spent I reckon close to 2 hrs cleaning, even after wire wheeling.
Using a wax and grease remover and thinners it just never seemed to get clean, so I got it as clean as I could. |

Brought my portable paint trolley out from the workshop
It really is a godsend. |

3 coats of epoxy primer, really only wanted to put two on butsome areas looked really thin, so two light one heavier
Tomoz some of the car 2 pack left over and hopefully this time it wont lift |

Should I scuff before laying on the two pack colour.
I remember being told here.. that epoxy primer is good to be topcoated with nothing done upwards of 7 days but after 3 give it a tickle with a scuff pad as it cant hurt. Being its a car engine and gets hot, will i need to do anything if I am topcoating within 24hrs or should I actually wait longer Thanks Steve |
