Hi guys,

So I’m spraying Speedokote Jet Black basecoat and the instructions on the can say that I should be spraying at 40-50 psi. I’m using a 3M accuspray gun which is designed to spray at 20 psi. What psi should I have the gun set up at and what fluid tip would you recommend using? Thanks in advance for any help!

:welcome: In all my years I've never heard of Speedkote, and im not familiar with the accuspray. so I can't really advise on them. what I can say is load the thing up with base and spray it on something ( old door fender or what ever) start with the recommended 20psi. if it sprays a nice fine even pattern your golden. if it looks dry open the fluid knob use the fan knob to adjust the fan if it looks textuary increase your air press. and see what it does. you should learn what all this does before you start on your project. there are MANY variables in getting a good finish out of a spray gun.

Jay,
I found it here: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Automotive ... n-SMR-9700
Don't know anything about it so I will not comment further.

The TDS for that product says "HVLP at 40-50psi".

So that's where you should start. There would be a reason why they have specified such a high pressure....
