Hey guys
I am using Evercoats short strand Fiberglass filler.
Instructions say 2% activator by weight should have 5-6 min working time.
I am using a Good gram scale to weigh out filler doing quick check of weight and coming up with activator weight mixing per instructions they say 5-6 min work time but I am not getting even 3 min to work with it on the panel before it kicks.
I have cut the activator by a gram or so and even added up to 50 grams more of actual filler to try to slow it down a bit but no joy.

Temps are warm mid 80s lower 90s but not overly hot YET and I am in my shop with the Swamp cooler going full blast so its a lot cooler in my shop than out doors.

Is it possible the higher humidity in my shop is playing a role?

Would reduceing activator down to 1% -1.5% Help? or would I have a bad batch on car? do not want adhesion issues or a mess to clean up.

That stuff does not like HEAT. I think it kicks too fast even in just the mid to high 70's. Just an opinion but if the stuff is kicking all the way through (saw open a test blob) you are okay. I mean honestly, almost all of these fillers would eventually kick even without hardener if left in a hot room for a few days.... ask me how I know....

I sent a question to Evercoats Tech line email will see what they say.
Probably be waiting a few days for a response from Evercoat.

I can tell you what its total BS I am wasting more than I am getting on the panel.

Humidity does accelerate it.
Just like it does with clear coats.

I ended up switching to USC's stuff years ago. Stuff is still quick but slower than Evercoat. When I really need some time I go to epoxy resin and cut up my own strands for it. Pro Marine has good pricing on 521 Epoxy with dispenser pumps included. How thick is that stuff? is it thick enough to used as a Filler? or is it a thick runny resin ?

I don't know if you are already doing it or not, but I learned the hard way to spread the filler out thin on my mixing board after it is thoroughly mixed.

That helped me quite a bit.

We always combine it with strands, ceramic micro-balloons, or a collodial silica filler for thickening and extra strength. Without a filler I would say it is kind of like a honey consistency. We almost never use it without some type of filler. With any of those listed above you can make it into a very thick paste.

Good point here, that lump of filler on your board builds heat fast causing the chain reaction to happen to quick. i can't see a humidity problem in your location you should be here.

I will try spreading it out thin on Board, I kinda just notice this with my last application a few min ago kinda thought it was strange once spread thin it wasn't kicking on the car or the board as fast just now, also started mixing smaller Batches 100-150 grams at a time.
