I am about to spray a bare metal body ( 67 Chevelle) with ********** Epoxy Primer. I have had good luck with this product in the past but today I read where it can be reduced 25-50%. I am think reducing it that much might cause coverage issues but I thought maybe just reducing it 10% might make it spray smoother. I am not a pro but a hobbyists. You guys helped me spray a 35 Ford and 51 Chevy truck with great results .Thoughts?

Normally when covering bare metal I shoot epoxy without reducer. When using epoxy as a sealer I will reduce it 1:1:1. That is 1 part epoxy, 1 part hardener, 1 part reducer which is 50% reduction. All of which is shot through a 1.4 tip.
That being said, you can reduce the epoxy slightly if you think it is too thick to spray but I have not had that problem myself. 1968 Coronet R/T

Its going to get covered with something that will need sanding, or the epoxy will be sanded, and the manufacturer specifies no reducer for epoxy on bare metal. So it sounds like you may be having a spraying problem that some of the guys could help you with. Do you have a picture, or at least explain what it looks like. |

first i would call ** and ask them. personally i don't see a problem with a 10% reduction, 5% may even help with the spraying, some times it doesn't take much to get it to spray better. also your gun set up may need some adjustment.

1.4 tip, no reducer, two coats, no issues:

Just sprayed some yesterday un-reduced through an lph80 minigun with a 1.2 tip. It layed down like a topcoat. I never reduce it, sprays like the proverbial glass.
