Hi there. This is my first post on this forum.
I am fairly new to spray gun painting (done plenty of rattle can work!) but have spent the summer spending my hard earned cash on my air system, and air purifying system and some equipment I am comfortable with.
My problem is spraying single stage paint only... I seem to be littered with fisheyes! However this is ONLY happening with my SS paint.
I can post pictures if you like.
I know that fisheyes are most commonly caused by some sort of silicone contamination or oil in the lines. Strange that this is not a problem with my other paints!
Paint being used: Nason Ful-Thane Carousel red (hugger orange!) through my LVLP cheap sprayit 3300 (love this gun) Any suggestions for me to try out would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Pics would help its impossible to say anything at this point. May not even be fish eyes.
You are correct in that Fish eyes are a Contamination issue, but to hold a spot light on the cause at this point is impossible need a lot more information. All your equipment your using the process you used and the materials. Tracking down the cause can be very frustrating. Often caused by what you least expect. Dennis B.

What are you wiping the surface with prior to spraying? Are you using a tack cloth? Cheap tack cloths often have contaminants like wax in them. 1968 Coronet R/T

as Doright says it can be VERY frustrating trying to find the cause.

Very true, that happened to me once. Since then, I never apply pressure using a tack cloth, and only lightly drag it across the surface. "If you can't move it, paint it." - U.S. Army

I will come right back with pictures. I am actually taking a couple of the parts to my local shop to see what they say.
I am not using tac cloths. Some of the pieces are just practice pieces by my process has been hot soapy water, and dry with disposable whipes. I did try solvent born wax and grease remover too just to be sure. Thanks for the replies, I really hope to get to the bottom of this! I tried one piece on bare metal freshly cleaned, and I got them too just not as bad so I am thinking it must not be solvent popping or a reaction with other paints. My main piece was painted with epoxy, then Nason white top coat and allowed to dry for two days. Scuffed it with a red pad, and then soapy water and single stage. Will post pics tomorrow: PS: is urethane single stage activator supposed to be like thick syrup? I'm noticing my 2k primer activator is much thinner... same with my epoxy activator. |

Nassons S/S top coat activator is somewhat thick like syrup.

Thanks for the syrup. And on time between cleaning... not long but I tried to make sure everything was as dry as possible.
Before you look at my pictures, this stuff was super difficult to photograph! Here is what the paint store said. They first said contamination in my lines... but that went out the window when I explained none of my other paints do this (just base and primer... I have no shot other single stage or clear coat yet) He said that you can't put SS paint over base... it has to go over sealer or primer and that may be the issue... I thought that was weird. He said the bare metal is causing the problems too. These are all practice pieces, some had nason base coat, some had just a scuffed surface however today what I did was wet sanded the previously painted SS piece, and painted more SS over it... guess what? The problem was SEVERELY reduced... Perhaps they are correct? You have to put this stuff over clear, or a sealer or primer or you get fisheyes? Weird. Here are the practice piece pix.
