Hi, I'm new here but decided to ask some regular joe painter pros instead of dealers. I am in an abundance of hok clear and catalyst. but I found their reducer to be very expensive. I just want to use this stuff up. Will a universal reducer work as the third part or is the composition going to make the clear not harden? or become problematic? anyone try a basic brand reducer with HOK clear?

:welcome: If you don't get a good response just get some reducer of some brand you can get locally and try it. i'm not going to say it WILL work BUT it might that's all the advice i can give. its slightly risky to mix brands like this. and what may work at the time may go bad a month for now. for the savings i would just buy the HOK reducer and possibly save a lot problems. I've seen more people on here cause themselves more money and labor than if they would have done it the right way first. sometimes pinching that dime just isn't worth it.

yes it will work, as long as it is urethane reducer and no paraffin in it, it will be white if it contains paraffin.

you may notice a difference when changing reducers as their flash times can vary

here is a example the reducers on the right ending in a number 1 are the exact same reducer as DT870/85 etc

Until I move into Painter Dave's shop, I use Tamco's reducers for everything including any HOK products.
