Hi Guys,

It's been awhile since I posted so first want to say hi to everyone,

I was watching Graveyard Carz last night and they always say the do a Pre-Paint to see how the car will look before they do their final paint. The final paint is BCCC. My question is, do you think their Pre-Paint, where they look for anything they missed, is also a complete base coat covering with 1 or 2 coats of clear? or do they paint it differently (Single Stage)? I know after they do their Pre-Paint they re-block for the final base and clear coats. What do you think they do for the Pre-Paint?

Thanks ~ Lenny B

I don't watch TV hardly at all, esp. not car shows! But I do know I've shot cars with a coat or 2 of single stage black, before doing a real nice Candy paint job, just to check for waves, and imperfections. Especially helps if the car's had a lot of bodywork done to it. I know others who do it, too.. or spray it with basecoat black, and wipe it with Prepsol to wet it, to look for waves.

I will shoot a reduced (1:1:1) coat of black epoxy as a sealer. It accomplishes the same thing and if necessary you can sand and/or fix issues.

On show car paint jobs I will wet sand the sealer coat for that extra insurance.

I just spray my Panels with Lac thinner and look at them in the light.
I also do the Epoxy deal and look at it in the light.

Shows me what I need to see.

Painting then repainting seams to be a waste of Materials to me?

Yep, for me it's a waste of materials, time and energy to pre-paint.

A single color sealer coat will show up all imperfections, if you look
close enough...
