Hi,
There is a plethora of resources online about how to setup up a spray gun to paint a car or a whole body panel.
Usually setting the fan size to maximum and then dialling the gun in to get a good (american) football shape.
But I am painting some small parts and if I use the full fan then I am going to have tremendous overspray.
Can anyone give me a rough guide to setting up a spray gun, in this case an FLG-5 which had the "normal" controls, so that it has a much small spray pattern.

Set up is the same, just set your fan size first.

For full fan I generally set the air inlet pressure to the manufacturers recommended inlet pressure, 35psi, and leave the air control wide open.
Would that be the same for a smaller fan too or would the pressure need to come down too? |
The PSI and Fluid should be adjusted to get a full pattern of consistently fine droplets of paint regardless of the fan size.
By full I mean, no missed areas or if you prefer complete coverage. The droplets are the key to knowing if the paint is fully atomized. You don't want large drops or runs within the pattern. 1968 Coronet R/T
