Intercoat clear is clear base material. Like in a base/clear system just imagine the base color with no color added to it. I use it a lot to "lock in" artwork, graphics, pearls, etc. Here is just one example of it by Tamco.... https://tamcopaint.com/collections/clea ... -clearcoat
It is much less reactive when you are working over the "unknown" especially unreduced as JC said.....

Just me But if the tank is so important and its never gonna be out side in the Sun in UV rays Leave it alone! The Sharpie signatures will last forever if its left inside on a shelf.

That was my train of thought also. Maybe he just wants it to have a nice gloss to it, not sure. I did take a test panel I had her and made a bunch of sig's on it. Let it dry for a few hours and then washed it with soapy water. After that dried, I wiped it down with w/g remover and then gave it 2 coats of clear. No running or fading of the sharpie. I feel that is a good sign. I have found out that the tank in question was only sprayed in base before the signatures. I have always read (TDS's) that clear should be applied within 24 hours of the base--not sure how that will work out in this case as I think this tank has been sitting like it is for weeks if not months. Thoughts??

Well, finally the owner got back to me and wants to go ahead with the clear--looks like I will be doing it this week. I'll post up with the results. Looking forward to using my new AZ4.
