I will let the experts here chime in but to me it looks like the tip of an iceberg - a failed paint/clear coat iceberg.
My suggestion, on a $1k car, don't even waste your time on a pro or a real repair which probably involves a bunch of stripping down to bare metal then throwing time and money at it.
Either rattle can it, keep the can for when more peels off or sell it now.
BTW, I am NOT any kind of pro, just a weekend rookie hack. If any of this site's pros chime in, listen to them.

Hmmmmm.....start sanding that and you might not be able to stop..... I think I'd just get some vinyl wrap and make a decorative band across there. Something with a little pattern might fake it better....

Ahhh, the right question. Can't imagine a car with only 160K km would be only worth $1000, but, if it is, blast off any loose, flaking paint and then rattle can it. Chris

Id rather do a clutch job any day of the week compared to a Paint job!

If you are going to try the wrap, I'd take my fingers and see just how much is coming up....stop, start feathering with sandpaper. I would then still aerosol prime and hit it with white. Wait a week or so, then do your wrap. If I was doing it I would get some 3M # 94 clear edge primer and brush that on All the area where you are going to run the vinyl. Make sure and get decent air release channel vinyl. For a first timer you might want to get 3M Di Noc vinyl.

It would appear that there is a failure between the Primer and the Base coat.
BUT not always the case either as Hi pressure sprayers are known for doing what they did to your paint even when Paints are in good condition. How strong of a Sprayer were you using? It would be best to feather out the damaged areas reapply Primer Base and clear and respray whole roof and Blend into rest of car. If you have comp and collision on it it might be covered? Say it happened in a car wash (Not far from the truth) Dennis B.

Here is my thought.
Pick an accent color and like others have said, rattle can it or get fancy with a single stage and just paint the top of the car. Tape off the edge to the good point and paint the accent. On a $1500 car how bad could it be? JT |
