I will ask the company/person for the names of the people that they most recently worked for....if they have a commercial accounts that they work for (a lot of guys do car lot work for dealers, etc.) I ask for that reference. And finally, I'll ask for the a referral for someone that they have done similar work for in the last 6 months or so. If they start hemming and hawing about providing any or all of that info. I move on. If they do give you some referrals that's great. Next try looking them up on your Better Business Bureau. For instance, if you look up my company you would find we are an A+ rated company with no current complaints. You will find open reviews there both good/bad. Local Chamber of Commerce and places like Angie's List will have some info. or reviews on companies as well.
I wouldn't get hung up on somebody or shop being the "best." I would prefer to see something they have done that would meet with my standards instead. I've known a lot of the "best" business owners over the years that are no longer here......
Thank you Darrell, thats some good advice. I know it may be a simple repair for most shops, but I’m a little OCD about my vehicles. Especially my V! I’m not a rich guy with lots of money, just an average middle class guy with my dream car that I screwed up.
The funny thing about this car, normally cars lose their values the moment you buy them, however, I’ve watched the value of this V coupe skyrocket over the past year. Another reason I wanted to keep it in mint condition. Hell, I’ve only put about 1500 miles on it this past year and it stays covered most of the time.
I took the advice of checking out Apex detail YouTube channel and tried a few things they suggested. I sanded these scratches with 3000g sand paper then polished it with 4 different compounds and polishes. Turned out pretty darn good actually! Of course you can still see the scratches if you get down and look closely, but 1000 times better than it was. I still wanna get it repaired tho. Once I get the money I’ll take care of that. I’ll definitely start looking around though. I appreciate all the good advice and look forward to learning more painting techniques. I love painting and it’s become a fun hobby for me at 53.
