Hi Guys,

Shooting Proform Epoxy primer through a FLG gun with a 1.8 tip. Mixed as they say and even a bit of reducer as they say can be done. No matter what I do, I still get a rough finish like a 220 grit paper. It sands easily with 500 wet so that is not an issue but, what am I doing wrong? Not to sound arrogant but I can lay down bc/cc like glass with my AZ3/AZ4'so I am definitely doing something wrong.

I shoot epoxy primer like base coat, through a 1.4 tip.
Never shot Proform though.

I wonder if the 1.8 tip is just splattering it on? I'm thinking that it is just not atomizing as fine as it should. They do call for a 1.4-1.6 tip. Maybe I could compensate by dialing back the fluid knob? I know I should just buy the correct tip but since it is really not a huge inconvenience to sand it smooth I might be able to compensate a bit with an adjustment. Am I on the right track?

That's what I was going to suggest; that the tip's too big.
You could reduce the viscosity a bit more, and try that...

Did you try a little more air pressure? dial the fluid back a little and up the air some. it sounds like you know what your doing, but also might try holding the gun a little closer also.

Update.......I ordered a needle and tip and tried it at 30 psi. Laid down like base--very smooth. The primer I am using calls for a 1.4-1.6 so I guess the 1.8 just didn't atomize as good as it could of. Very happy with the results.
