Id like to get your suggestions on redoing a freshly painted silver metallic bc/cc on my C4 Corvette clamshell hood and bumper... I sprayed one coat of clear last night over my blotchy silver metallic base coat to protect it until I decide which way to go and have the the time to do it.

Current Substraight
One coat of Acme Finish 1 Overall cc over 72 ounces of sprayable Sherwin Williams Dimension national rule 6 bc (used up the quart and a half I bought trying to make it look even) over Upol 2053 urethane primer surfacer over SMC repair using Lord Fusor products over factory paint.

Which option ?
1) spray another coat or two of cc and prep that for the redo of bc. The pros are time and a perfectly smooth and flat surface after prepping for bc. The cons number/ thickness of paint layers and it wont be over factory paint this time.
2) sand off clear and down into to bc. prep for urethane sealer, then bc/cc

Any questions and /or suggestions are welcome.

Hi RT,
The second paragraph in my post has the information you requested. The heading is Current Substraight. Here is a photo of it as it sits now. It doesn't show how bad the paint looks for some reason. I have pics of the repair, but its invisible now and wont help my redo decision. Thx PJC

Id like to have your opinion on prepping for redo. Based on the current substraight and the materials used, would it be wise to redo over the new cc?, or remove the new cc and some of the bc and start over with sealer?. Thx again.

No need to remove the clear.
From what I am seeing your color doesn't match.

Hi RT,
Thanks for your reply. I painted the entire hood. The paint doesn't match all over it for a number of reasons. The bc color I spray after I prep for the redo will match and come out fine. I just need to get to that point. Should I just plan on wet sanding 600 and shooting over the paint job in the pic? , or do I remove all of it and start over? ......... Well shoot. Just typed myself into starting over. It is the best way to go. Thanks

Hey RT, Just noticed you're in AZ. If you know of a paint booth for rent in north phoenix, it sure would make my life a bit easier on occasion. Thx

If you stripped it to bare metal the first go around, you should be okay to scuff the clear with 800 grit to dull the surface, clean and then spray color. However if there is already two paint jobs on there, you will need to strip.

Sorry, I do not know of any booths for rent.

Hi PJC Welcome to the forum!
I realize I am a little late to this thread as it was started on the 4th BUT.

Do you understand what happened and why your BC turned out blotchy ?
What exactly DO YOU THINK went wrong and why it was Blotchy?
How do you plan to prevent it from happening again in your second attempt?

Silver metallic is a Very hard Color to get right.
Trying to get the Hood to match the fenders and doors will be near impossible without Blending.
Spraying any Metallic is a Pain to get right, Your spray technique has got to be Robot perfect keeping your gun strait at panel gun distance from panel as close to perfect as possible with overlap as perfect as possible and your Air pressure is critical!
Using correct size fluid tip is a Must.
Following with a Drop coat is controversial.
