The clear seems to have given more depth and gloss.

I don't care what they say, you don't look old at all in the pic...

Thank you, but I am (old).

But don't worry, you wouldn't be the first person to mistake me for Tom Cruise!

I wasn't going to do this, but might as well keep this thread going FOREVER!
I am building a mild custom 1951 Ford business coupe for a friend. He is pretty undecided about the color, and I've sprayed out many different ones for him. The car is going to be a traditional late 50's style job. Anyway, he started leaning toward a Candy Mayan gold, and Candy Apple Red tu-tone. I tried to steer him away from true Candy due to the added expense, more difficult, longer shoot, and difficulty to repair.
To cut to the point: I shot 4 gallon cans with different versions. Real Candy Red over gold on one, HOK's Kandy Basecoat (KBC) on another. I doctored the KBC with 1/8 TSP. of gold mini flake for #3, and then for #4, used the KBC + flake + half clear on the last.
I did this during the week, so I could get true opinions on the weekend, when my guys show up. Unanimously, as expected, the Real Candy came out the winner. The KBC + flake + clear came close second. Same color, same paint, as the 2 losers, just with added clear on the final coats. The color remains the same, but the depth of finish is changed. Not the shine, or reflection. Not the DUI. It is more intangible than shine, pictures would do no good, they don't capture real candy well, and you can't see the difference in the test pieces in the pics I took.
But as I said in the beginning, and I stick to it, it's the difference between a piece of opaque plastic, and a colored piece of glass.
I may try an experiment in the future with black, to see if I can capture a small look into this.

Kandy is translucent so yes it will always look better than anything else.
