I have never seen a comparable model in the USA to the one he has.
Having two pumps on it its a cool little compressor.
Craigs list :
80 gal 7hp? $400

IR T30 Compressor used 15- 20 cfm rebuild-able and reliable machines this one is 3 phase but you could put a single phase motor on it easy enough. I bet $450-$500 would bring it home.

There were a bunch of others just the two that caught my eye if I was shopping for a big compressor on the cheap big enough to do some real work.
Can this be sanded, polished, or buffed out?

Perhaps.... Mine is assembled here in Australia but there are others. Chicago Air (not Chicago Pneumatic) have all alloy units that are the best known here, and made in the US. Rolair is another one that comes to mind. Local links, but you should be able to find the equivalent model over there. This one is probably the most popular amongst people like me: https://sydneytools.com.au/product/chicago-hush150-silenced-150l-air-compressor Rolair. They had another one that I saw in the store which had a 100l tank and higher cfm. https://www.totaltools.com.au/134648-rolair-ultra-quiet-3hp-50l-oil-free-air-compressor-jc50wh I believe California Tools make them too. The Chicago model claims CFM: 19.35 at no posted psi? I assume 0 psi, and a CFM: 14.45 @ 100 psi even with 4 motors and 4 tandem pumps with a $1750 price tag and I believe that to be Aussie dollars not USA dollars. Aussie dollars worth more than USA dollars I do believe? which means this one would cost a USA buyer even more with the current exchange rate.
The other does not post CFM flow rates just Liters so I will refrain comment as I havnt done the conversion. but still comes with a $1250 price. Just from a price stand point the machines we have been pushing are in those price range. all are a little low in cfm output but would work I think for an entry level machine in small one man garage. Home depot : Dewalt $1799.00 15.3 cfm @ 100 psi, 13.5 cfm @ 175 psi 5 hp 80 gal tank. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-60-G ... 03#overlay Ingersol Rand $1609 Type 30 Reciprocating 60 Gal. 5 HP Electric 230-Volt Single Phase Air Compressor 14.7 scfm @ 40 psi, 14.3 scfm @ 90 psi https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ingersoll-R ... /202885716 Cambel housefield $1786 80 Gal. Vertical Two Stage 14CFM 5HP 230V 1PH 5hp 15.2 scfm @ 40 psi, 14 scfm @ 90 psi Puma $1360 80 gal 6.5 hp 17.5 scfm @ 40 psi, 17 scfm @ 90 psi https://www.homedepot.com/p/Puma-80-Gal ... /204345222 For the money this one sounds to good to be true! as always Buyer beware of false and misleading claims!!!!!!!!! Their are many more, Just me but Before I spent this kind of money I would step up my available funds a little more and look at a little better machines. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-80-G ... /310152894 Dennis B.

I think your idea of looking locally on FB or Craigslist is a great idea. I will start keeping my eye out for this. Since my car is now garage kept, I am not in a hurry to get everything. I checked the Homedepot links, and some of those were great ideas, but I don't know if it is timing, or because of "supply chain" issues, but some of them were out of stock around me. The ingersol rand and the dewalt were in stock. However, as you said, if I am going to spend that kind of money to begin with, I would want something that will be good and last. You've given me some great ideas, and I appreciate the posts on career too. Yes, you are right, maybe learn by trial and error, youtube, and here on the forums instead. If you were going to college/trade school, what would you go into today? Still engineering? I do well in math and that is somewhere I have considered. Either way, thanks for all the input, it is deeply appreciated. Oh, and one last question, if I don't have a tank (yet) to handle a pneumatic sander, can a random orbital sander (like a Dewalt 5") with the correct grit sand paper be used to sand car paint? I know it would probably take a long time, but it would be faster than by hand, right? |

Ya you could use Your little compressor with a DA You'll quickly appreciate what we are talking about with the CFM out put of your compressor pump. There is no way it will be able to keep up with the sander.
To feather out the Clear coat damage I wouldn't go more than 180 grit and just feather out the damaged paint, then prime with a Good 2k hi build sand that with 400-600 by hand and a block. Keep in mind that spraying with your little tire filler will cause radical pressure drops and spikes causing all kinds of of painting issues you'll want to avoid by using a compressor large enough for the job. Yes Aerospace engineering maybe I will see you at NASA some day? Just about anything in Aerospace is where you wanna be, demand is great supply of qualified is low. Aim hi sky has no limit! Dennis B.

Other way around, Dennis. At the moment 1 AUD = 0.70 USD so $1750AUD = $1225 USD. Usually AUD and CAD are roughly similar. One of the reasons why I thought that unit of mine was such good value at around $600USD when compared to the equivalent Chicago Air model at more than double the price. But what you're saying about capacity is spot on. Chris
