Got me a used '06 Tiburon that I want to wrap and starting with the hood and roof. Parts of the car have been sprayed with what I think is just spray paint but I'm not sure how it dried like this but it's for the lack of a better word, textured. It was obviously put on to cover something else up but there was no clear put on top of it and it actually feels rough to the touch. This is on about half the hood from nose to middle, about a quarter the way back from the front on the roof and there is some down around the rear fenders where they attempted to fix up some rust spots.

I'm going to wet sand the entire hood and roof to get it all smoothed out but do have some (actually a lot) of rock chips and there are a couple of grooves in the hood that need filled in. Wondering what I should use to get the smoothest result. Can I spray the chips with filler primer then sand down to even with the paint? Or should I try to fill everything with putty up to even with the paint then spray everything with some kind of primer? I'll try to post some pics of what the areas I'm talking about look like.

for the rock chips the best way is to sand them off down to bare metal. then shoot a coat or two of epoxy primer then your wrap. its important that you have a good surface for the wrap just like for paint.

i would glaze and fill the chips, block smooth 180 then prime the whole hood,

i would block the dried primer with 220, then mix some urethane primer as a sealer and shoot 2 nice smooth coats then wrap over that

I use vinyl wraps as trim accents on my kit builds. Just a friendly warning....if you do indeed end up spraying "anything" over the car you are going to have to give a DIY paint job like this some time to off gas and cure before attempting to wrap. If this was being done in a pro booth, running on the heat cycling, you could get by with waiting a few days, then wrapping. If you've got less than ideal temp.s/drying in a home booth situation it would be wise to maybe wait a couple of weeks before wrapping. Just remember this can be a problem because when wrapping almost any surface you are "working" the vinyl down and if you are like me you are heat gunning/picking up that vinyl as you get the best shape/stretch on it. Pull up on that vinyl with fresh/not fully cured film and just watch it peel up that coating.... don't ask me how I know this......

the year of the car is 06, why spend the money on paint that will be covered by vinyl ?

just waste of time and money IMO
